ACCESSIBILITY


 

At The Georgian Peaks Club, we strive to give every guest an unforgettable experience during every visit.  It’s our mission to promote an inclusive environment where all guests can enjoy their experience to the fullest.

All documents, or the information contained in the document, will be provided in a format that takes into account the person’s disability.  Documents can be requested by phone, e-mail ([email protected]) or by visiting our Member & Guest Services office in the Main Lodge.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS ADAPTIVE SKI PROGRAM

This program is supported by The Georgian Peaks Club, but runs independently from our Ski School Department.  With this program we see mentally challenged individuals, not physically challenged, come and ski at our Club.  We will provide Volunteer Instructors to assist with this program when at the Club.

MOUNTAIN ACCESSIBILITY

Please read the following as to what lifts/facilities can accommodate people with disabilities:
The following lifts have this capability:
  • Champlain – detachable quad chair
  • Rogers – quad chair
  • Minute Mile – quad chair
For use of any other assistive devices on-hill please contact the Member & Guest Services Office and they will connect you with our on-hill Ski Patrol Staff.

PARKING

Designated disabled parking spaces are located on both the east and west side of the Main Lodge with easy access to the building.  Please note you must display a blue disabled permit in your vehicle.

TRANSIT/TAXI

Collingwood’s Ace Taxi (705-445-3300) has two accessible taxis in their fleet.  Drivers undergo specialized AODA required training to ensure that they are not only providing inclusive and integrated transportation but also ensuring that they treat their customers with the dignity and respect they deserve.
 
TICKETS
 
The Georgian Peaks Club does not offer ticket discounts for guests of our Members with disabilities.  However, an accompanying ski “buddy” or support person is eligible to receive a free ticket.  Tickets must be purchased in person at the Member & Guest Services office.
 
SPECIAL LIFT LINE PRIORITY
 
There is no lift line priority, however, persons with disabilities do not stand in the general lift line.  The Ski Patrol access line located at the front of the lift line is used as there is some preparation required to get ready to load the chair with a ski rigger.  If you have a disability that affects your ability to stand in the lift line, please visit the Member & Guest Services office to provide more information.
 
ASSISTIVE DEVICES
 
A person with a disability may provide their own assistive device for the purpose of obtaining, using and benefiting from any of our activities or services.  Exceptions may occur in situations where we determine the device may pose a risk to the health and safety of a person with a disability, or to the health and safety of others at the Club.  If you have an assistive device that is excluded, please inquire with the Staff at Member & Guest Services to see if an alternative arrangement can be made.
 
RESTAURANT/WASHROOM ACCESS
 
There are wheelchair accessible washrooms in the following locations:
 
The Main Lodge has a family washroom as well as wheelchair accessible washrooms in the Men’s & Women’s washrooms on both the lower Main level and on the Marche level of the Main Lodge.
 
Lower level of Alpine Centre at Coaches Corner – two washrooms (Men’s & Women’s).
 
There is an elevator on the lower Main Lodge to assist people with physical disabilities to access the Marche cafeteria and Founders’ lounge.
 
EQUIPMENT RENTALS
 
We do not have any ski equipment for skiers with disabilities available for rent.  All disabled skiers must come prepared with their own equipment that is up to operational standards.
 
 
SERVICE ANIMALS
 
We are happy to welcome service animals here at The Georgian Peaks Club.  All service animals are allowed to be on our premises in areas that are open to the public, as long as the animal is not otherwise excluded by law.  During the winter season, larger service animals (i.e. guide dogs) are not permitted on the chairlifts.  If you have any questions, please visit our Member & Guest Services Office to confirm where and how the service animals can be accommodated.
 
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
 
At this time there is no disabled Staff in the buildings.
 
Any disabled occupants should be made known to management (if we have a group of disabled skiers on hill on any given day).  Any disabled person should be considered for assistance in emergencies and, if required, this need should be brought to the attention of fire fighters.
 
ACCESSIBILITY TRAINING
 
The Club will ensure that training is provide to:
 
  • All Employees;
  • All persons who participate in developing the Club’s policies; and
  • All other persons who provide goods, services or facilities on behalf of the Club.
 
Training will include:
 
  • A review of the purpose of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 and requirements of the accessibility standards;
  • A review of this Accessibility Policy;
  • How to interact and communicate with persons with various types of both visible and non-visible disabilities;
  • How to interact with persons with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or support person;
  • How to use equipment and/or devices made available on the Club’s premises to assist persons with disabilities with obtaining, using or benefiting from the Club’s goods and services; and
  • What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty accessing the Club’s premises and/or goods and services.
 
The training will be appropriate to the duties of the person receiving such training.  The Club will incorporate this training requirement into hiring practices to ensure that new employees complete the required training within a reasonable time of having accepted a position at the Club.
 
We will maintain a record of Employees who receive and complete the training.  The records will include the dates that training is provided, and the names of the individuals who received and completed the training.
